Enhancing Sustainable Tourism Engagement through Gamified Augmented Reality Experiences


The Eco Quest AR is a project where a mobile application is presented involving gamification using augmented reality (AR) to encourage sustainable behaviour in travelers. This app is a blend of Pokemon Go navigation modulated with the activities of quests as users are provided with directions leading them to real world sites using Vuforia image and area targets as marks. Upon scanning, the interactive experiences that these AR markers open include location-based narratives, virtual experiences, and real-life activities that bring local culture and sustainable efforts into the spotlight.The users will gain points, XP, and badges when the user completes different activities and can be redeemed to get coupon codes or distinctive local souvenirs. Competition is made a part of the experience as each one has a personalised profile page that keeps track of his, her, or their respective progress, rank, and achievements. It will make travelling more interactive, culturally enriching, and environmentally aware because the app will allow users to find new activities and enjoy themselves through a pleasurable, intuitive, and gratifying experience.
