Spacewalking: A VR Locomotion System

Spacewalking is a natural walking, locomotion system designed for virtual reality, which allows users to reorient themselves, and move with 6 degrees of freedom. As an alternative locomotion method to teleportation, this system provides users with the ability to naturally walk around virtual environments of any size, from a rather small physical space. It also opens up the vertical space of these environments for further navigation and/or interaction. As well as the locomotion system, a tutorial which aims to teach users how to navigate with Spacewalking has been designed and developed for this project too. An autoethnographic-inspired research approach has been carried out through this project. And through self-observations, this system has shown to result in no motion sickness or loss of spatial awareness.
