The emerging field of Animal Computer Interaction focuses on studying the interaction between animals and technology in their natural settings, and identifying how technology can support interspecies relations. Mao is an interactive system that supports remote interactions between humans and their pet cats. It consists of a mobile application and an interactive device that allows the pet owner to view the pet in their home environment and interact with them remotely by projecting a game. The objective of the project is to support the wellbeing of the pet and to strengthen the relationship between the pet owner and the cat. Following an Animal centred approach MAO is an investigation into how these design processes can support interactions between cats and their pet owners.
