This project explores how an interactive learning experience can be created for young children with severe physical disabilities. Fun at the Farm has been developed for the Windows 8 touch computer in one of the classrooms at the St. Gabriel’s Special School. This class consists of four children between 5 and 7 years that all have certain disabilities. All of the children are in wheelchairs; they are not ambulant and non-verbal. Some children are able to touch the screen of the computer independently; others need the assistance of an adult. One of the problems that the teacher of this class is experiencing is that there are not enough relevant apps available for the Windows 8 platform. That is why I have developed a Windows 8 app, especially for these students. Fun at the Farm is a fun game while still maintaining an educational element. It is a Windows 8 app that was designed using a User Centered Design approach as part of the Master of Science in Interactive Media course at the University of Limerick. The final app is going to be showcased during DAWN 2013 at the University of Limerick. This app will also be available in the Windows Store.
