Cinememory

Cinememory is compiled from video and sound recordings gathered from The Royal in Limerick City; a former cinema which has been closed since 1985.

The installation uses two projectors and two sets of speakers to evoke a duality between past and present. Each side of the room signifies a different era. Images blend and interact across several sheets of suspended fabric, evoking a sense of layered time. Moving through the space, visitors experience site-specific sound recordings blending with audio which references The Royal’s more spirited past.

Cinememory explores themes of loss, nostalgia and layered time. It seeks to examine the haunted nature of existence which results from the presence of the past within modern life.
