Embryogenesis

A genetic algorithm is a computational process that mimics the natural process of evolution.  By creating a population that evolves to reach a target, the genetic algorithm reaches an ideal state by selecting from the population the fittest candidates and breeds them.  In this work, the target value is changing based on the video input.  As a result, the genetic algorithm is constantly evolving and changing.  The resulting population is measured and it's characteristics are used to control the sound being produced.  In this way, the genetic algorithm bridges the visual aspect of the work with the aural.  This idea of evolution is not only the method of realising the work, but also the inspiration for it's aesthetic.  Like evolution, it doesn't have an end, but develops continuously.
