Post stroke hand rehabilitation game.


The aim of this thesis is to explore the development of an interactive upper arm rehabilitation game to be used by a female stroke victim who suffers from right parietal lobe stroke which has resulted in damage to her left hand along with hemispatial neglect to left side of her body.  This hemispatial neglect has caused the patient to neglect the left side of her body and as a result this has affected her walk along with eating, as she sometimes isn’t aware of food on the left side of her plate. The final design, proof of concept implementation will feature an interactive system consisting of a leap motion sensor, connected and placed directly in front of the stroke victim to capture gesture and hand tracking.  The system will allow the stroke victim to use her affected left hand to control a physical Labyrinth game, controlling a ball through different stages of a maze.  Each stage of the maze will have a different level of difficulty with the aim of keeping the stroke victim interested and motivated.  The system offers audio feedback based on the stroke victims pronation and supination rehabilitation upper arm movement to help instruct and motivate throughout the game.
