RSpace

This thesis explores the translation of intimacy and closeness across digital means for the design and development of an interactive communication virtual environment. This was done by examining the effects of kinetic interaction and how these interactions can be incorporated into the development of an immersive one-on-one communication application that is used in the home. Based on an iterative user-centered design process and research an application was developed for the DAWN 2012 exhibition at the University of Limerick. The application entitled “RSpace” has the ability to provide individuals with an innovative means of maintaining intimate relationships at long distances.
